Prehistoric Traces in Surrey (UK) II

Also this study shows an interconnected network: almost one third of all its "monuments" were already part of the previous study "Surrey I". Moats are important and account here for one third.

We begin with the straight line from the moat Ardenrun/Godstone to the enclosure Birchen Coppice/Godstone (534.935/148.065) and the motte Castle Hill  in Bletchingley (532.200/150.555).

The ancient church St. Bartholomews/Horley is equidistant (8.97 km, always measured horizontally) from the motte Castle Hill  ent the enclosure Birchen Coppice; the same distance again a third time between Castle Hill  and the church  All Saints  in Warlingham.

The Gatton church/Reigate is equidistant (10.03 km) from the St. Bartholomews  and All Saints  churches,

The moat Lodge Farm/Bletchingley (533.795/147.030) is equidistant (3.83 km) from the motte Castle Hill  and the moat Ardenrun. The straight line  moat Ardenrun   -  moat Lodge Farm   leads to the former Priory in Reigate (525.815/149.965), which in turn is equidistant (12.85 km) from the moat Ardenrun  and the ancient church St. Agatha  in Woldingham.

The moat "Burstow church north" (531.185/141.350) is then equidistant (7.60 km) from the moat Ardenrun  and the enclosure Birchen Coppice; the straight line  moat Ardenrun   -  moat "Burstow church north" runs through the moat Bysshe Court/Horne (533.525/143.020), and the moat "Burstow church north" is equidistant (2.82 km) from the moat Bysshe Court  and the moat Burstow Lodge  (531.465/144.195).

The Nutfield church is equidistant (8.20 km) from the moats Bysshe Court  and Ardenrun, and again the same distance is found between the moat Bysshe Court  and the earthwork Castlehill/Godstone (536.310/150.815).

This leads to the straight line  Nutfield church  -  Bletchingley church  -  earthwork Castlehill

Bletchingley church is the equidistant (3.52 km) from the earthwork Castlehill  and the moat Prickle Shaw/Godstone (535.095/148.190). Not only this church, but also the enclosure Tadworth II  (see study "Surrey I") (523.575/155.225) is equidistant (13.42 km) from the earthwork Castlehill  and the moat Prickle Shaw.

Finally, the Chaldon church is equidistant (7.24 km) from the enclosure Tadworth II  and the  earthwork Castlehill/Godstone.
